The air has cooled down, I have started thinking of gloves and shawlettes (because we all know shawlettes are so in and scarves are so out) and sweaters, and though this is my favorite season of all, it is also the beginning of the dreaded flu season. Yes, dear readers, I came down with the flu. And, yes, it was the H1N1 flu. And, yes, it is as bad as you’ve heard. I think I told my husband at least three times that I was going to die from it, LOL. But I didn’t (obviously or this would be a truly strange entry!) and I’m recovering. It took 2 whole weeks of not leaving the house except to go to the doctor and I still have a nagging cough and a slight case of laryngitis, but at least I don’t feel like I’m about to die anymore. And that’s a great thing because it’s just in time for me to enjoy my favorite season of all!
Okay, so I admit this picture was taken last year (the leaves haven’t gotten that far along yet), but it does totally represent one of the best things about fall: the colors! The greens turning into browns, yellows and reds are just beautiful and I love watching the leaves change colors. Not to mention, of course, the oranges from the pumpkins because it will be Halloween soon and then Thanksgiving, two of my favorite holidays! Basically, I just love me the Fall season.
In honor of it being October, I am unofficially participating in Socktoberfest. What is Socktoberfest you ask? Basically, it’s whatever you want it to be do with sock knitting! You can make it your own and as for me I’m making it my month of knitting as many socks as I can! To kick it off, here are my finished pair of Devon socks that I finished on September 30… they are my honorary Socktoberfest socks as they were only 1 day off from being October socks after all:
I just love love LOVE how these came out! The colorway (Fiberphile August 2009 Sock Club) is just amazing and made the pattern just pop, IMO.
It’s definitely one of my favorite socks I’ve made ever and they came out perfectly… after frogging it three times, LOL!
Pattern – Devon by Cookie A (rav link | project link)
Yarn – Fiberphile Alchemy Cashmere Merino Sock in Shadow Lake (rav link | store I used)
Needle – US2.5 (3mm)
Cast on – September 17, 2009
Cast off – September 30, 2009
Modifications – I only did 3 repeats on the leg (instead of 4) and I knit all YO’s through the back loop to minimize the lacy-ness of the pattern.
For a true Socktoberfest sock, I have started up a pair of Vilai using what I think is the perfect Fall colorway, Sundara Sock in Toasted Orange Over Pistachio:
Is that a gorgeous color or what? And the pattern is amazing too! I’m loving the cables running down the back of the sock:
I’m a bit further along on them now and hope to finish the first sock soon though this pattern is actually quite painful on my hands… tons of K3tog and SSSK’s. I don’t knit it for too long at a time to give my hands some rest. I’m also working on a test knit pair of socks that I can’t show you yet (but will hopefully soon) and I’m going to be joining in on the Socktoberfest Mystery Sock KAL as well. We’ll see just how many of these pairs I will actually finish before October is over, but I’m hoping for at least 3. Wish me luck!
