Day 6 Finish Line, Day 7 Start

Yes, you heard me right, I’ve finished my Hamamelis shawl that I started at the Opening Ceremonies! I actually took a bit longer than I should have with this one as I had some hand pain once and had to take a break and house hunting all weekend, which prevents me from knitting totally and completely! But 6 days is none too shabby for such a fabulous shawl!

Hamamelis Shawl - FINISHED

Do I love this shawl? You bet your sweet ass I do! When I saw pictures of it I totally liked it and thought I needed to make one but seeing it done in person, OMG! This is most possibly (98% certain) my most favorite shawl I’ve made yet. It’s just a wonderful pattern and so pretty to look at!

I do think that part of the reason I loved it so much is that I made it with SG Bugga!, which is just so soft and knit up beautifully. Not to mention the color, which is just to-die-for beautiful!

The pattern is very well-written as well and I had it memorized after 1.5 repeats, making it very easy to work with! I even felt like giving a little attitude while taking the pictures with it. 😉

Don’t ask me what I was thinking with that picture, I honestly have no idea, LOL. This is the medium size of the shawl (there are three sizes) and it pretty much used all of my 412 yard skein… I had *maybe* 2 yards left at the end. A close call, but glad I made it. As for the next picture? Yes, I know I am a dork!

Pattern – Hamamelis Shawl by Kirsten Kapur (rav link | project link)
Yarn – The Sanguine Gryphon Bugga! in Marpesia Marcella (rav link | store I used)
Needle – US6 (4mm)
Cast on – February 12, 2010
Cast off – February 17, 2010
Modifications – None

Not wanting to waste any time, I immediately printed out and wound up the yarn for my next project! It’s the Cedar Leaf Shawlette (rav link) that I’m knitting in Madelinetosh Pashmina in Winter Wheat Dark. I didn’t cast on, though, as I was too tired (and it requires a 270 stitch cast on!) so off to bed I went. In the morning, though, I picked it right up and started knitting! So far it’s been a very quick knit and I am more than happy with it.

My favorite part of it so far is the yarn! The Pashmina is to-die-for soft. It feels like butter through the fingers and I am loving knitting with it. I keep stopping to pet it, it’s that soft! 🙂

The shawl is also a different construction for me, so I’m happy to learn something new with it! I hope that I can squeeze in at least one more project before the finish line, but if I can say I did two shawls by the end, I think I will be pretty happy.

How about you? Are you doing the Ravelympics or not? If so, how are you doing? Good luck to all other Olympic Knitters out there!

As for me, I’m heading off to knit some more! 😀

  1. Hand pain? Weren’t you using your new Signature Circulars?

I think I’m going to have to knit Hamamelis, you’ve sold me!

My ravelympic Vilais are ssllllloooooowwww going. I’m going to have to get down to business this weekend!

    1. haha! No I wasn’t! When I started it my US6 size Signature circs were waiting for me at the post office so I used other needles. That’ll teach me! 😉 But actually I do get hand pain from using the mouse all day too! It wears on me after a few days, even if I don’t knit.

Good luck with your Vilai! Mine are still a WIP from last October! They are very pretty but take so long to knit.

  2. Wow, that was fast!! Love the shawl, the colour is so beautiful, and it looks great on you! I’ve knit the cedar leaf shawlette too! Mine is just waiting to be blocked and photographed, I really should get moving and get that done!

  3. I love that shawl! As soon as the pattern came out I wanted to knit it- but had just cast on for another shawl just days before that! It’s just beautiful, and the color is wonderful! Perfect perfect perfect!
