A 6-Day Sweater

You read that right… 6 days! That is a definite record for me. I’d have to say that the Effortless Cardigan is appropriately named as it took little to no effort to knit it up. And I enjoyed knitting every minute of it!

I love wearing it! It looks amazing in all three different ways that I wore it – open, pinned in the center and pinned to the side. I like that it’s so versatile so it’s easy to wear.

It fits beautifully too. I did the 42″ size and instead of 4.75spi I knit it at 4.5spi to give it a little more ease. I like how roomy it is, but I definitely could have done this one at 4.75spi and been fine, so it wasn’t really necessary to go up a needle size.

I love the color as well! This was knit up with MadTosh Tosh DK in Amber Trinket. I alternated the skeins throughout the body but not on the arms or the collar/bands. It was important to alternate so as not to get pooling, as you can see that it did pool a bit on the arms where I didn’t alternate.

The sweater was a bit large on the shoulders for me (I have small shoulders, I think, as I’ve had this problem with other knit sweaters before) so I gave it a quick tumble in the dryer and now it’s good.

I absolutely love wearing this sweater, and would totally recommend it to everyone!

Pattern – Effortless Cardigan by Hannah Fettig (project link | pattern link)
Yarn – Madelinetosh Tosh DK in Amber Trinket (rav link | store I used)
Needle – US9 (5.5mm)
Cast on – December 26, 2010
Cast off – January 1, 2011
Modifications – I knit the sleeves to 14” to make them a little longer and only did two sets of increases after the waist decreases instead of three as I didn’t think I needed any more. Glad I did this – in fact I think I could have omitted the increases altogether, but it looks fine with just the two I did do. I made the cardigan at 4.5spi instead of 4.75spi to give it an extra inch of space. I probably could have done without this and just done the 4.5spi but I do like the roominess in it.

And I especially love these pictures because I can finally see my weight loss paying off! I’ve lost 14lbs since October and although my clothes fit better, I wasn’t seeing the results in the mirror. These pictures do show it to me, though, so I’m happy about that. 😀

  1. You are a knitting goddess! LOVE this! And I can’t believe it only took 6 days. Isn’t the MadTosh DK divine? I love the stitch definition it gives. I keep going back to the pictures of your sleeves to look at the pretty stitches.

  2. That is a lightning fast knit and you look great in it! I’m so tempted to knit this myself, it looks so cozy. Congrats on your weight loss, what an achievement!

  3. You look effortlessly amazing in that lovely sweater. I love the pictures of the different ways to wear it. In fact, this has convinced me that I need this versatile cardi in my wardrobe, although I doubt I could knit it in 6 days. Wow!

  4. Beautiful! And 6 days?! Amazing! I have the yarn for this (Tosh DK Cherry) and your pictures make me want to start knitting it right now 🙂 Congratulations on the weight loss! That’s wonderful! I want to lose some weight too, and I know how hard it is.

  5. Gorgeous cardigan! It just looks so nice to wear and I love the way the front hangs. Well done on the weight loss, I lost 2 stones last year and felt so good, its hard work isn’t it!
