Year of Socks – Sock 7 and a Remembrance

Stricken - FINISHED

And now for some knitting content… as it turns out I have been knitting over the past couple of months… all socks. I have just recently (as in last week) started working on other things but socks have been the focus of my knitting these summer months because, sadly, I never feel like knitting when it’s 95 degrees out with 95% humidity. Go figure!

I do have to say that as much as I love the look of these socks, I didn’t much enjoy knitting on them. I didn’t hate them, they didn’t hate me… we just didn’t click. It was one of those things where I just couldn’t get to the end of them fast enough and I really really was sick of them by the time I was close to the end. But they ARE pretty to look at and that’s a big plus!

And I didn’t mention the yarn, which was just amazing to work with! I LOVE Skein and now I love it even more that I know her BFL base is oh-so-yummy. I am definitely going to be using this a lot more in the future. I have some worsted weights from her too that I now have to try out!

Being a New Yorker I couldn’t post on 9/11 without mentioning the 10 year anniversary of that tragic attack. I have only been in New York for 5 years but I truly feel like this city has integrated itself into who I am and my life. Thinking about that day (and I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing that day) is very sombering for me. My husband worked at a firm that operated out of the World Trade Center and his old coworkers know people who died from their floor. Thinking about that makes it all the more real to me as if this had happened just a few years later my husband could very well have been a victim. My heart goes out to everyone who lost family and friends during that day.

I took this picture tonight. They are lighting up the skies where the Twin Towers once stood. It’s a wonderful and touching way to remember that tragic day.

  1. A beautiful sentiment Lina. I also remember exactly where I was and what I was doing that day.
On a lighter note, those socks look great! I have not yet had the courage to attempt socks….I’ll practice on easier projects until I feel ready….
And I am really gald you found my blog!

  2. It’s still hard to think about 9/11 let alone know what’s appropriate to say. That’s a beautiful photo of the skyline.

And of course, those are some great looking socks.

  3. Love the look of the socks and the color- sorry they weren’t fun to knit. The picture you took was striking and took my breath away. Thanks for sharing.

  4. The photo was a memorable tribute to 9-11. Loved the socks too, although I must admit that I’m really not a sock knitter. I also want to tell you that Portuguese Knitting will be one of the workshops at the Rhinebeck Sheep and wool festival. It will be taught by Andrea Wong, the author of the book Portuguese Knitting.

  5. Great wrap up! Whenever I’m gone for a while I never know what to say because I want to say EVERYTHING. Gorgeous bride. And so excited over baby news. Good to see you back.
