I received my first order of Wollmeise literally a couple of days after I wrote my last post. How in love am I with this yarn? Very much so. It’s not really the base (though I do like to knit with it) but the amazing VIBRANT color of it. I don’t understand how she can keep color so well in her yarns. I have plenty of other indie dyers that I still adore – and probably more than Wollmeise, to be honest – but Wollmeise has sky rocketed to my top ten for sure! First, I just love how it was packaged:
Is that a neat little bag or what? Written all over it are knitting terms in German translated into English. And upon opening, a wonderful burst of green:
Along with some German Gummy Bears. How could you beat that??? My guess is with gorgeous yarn! I got four skeins, Wasabi (love the BRIGHT green!!!):
Campari Piccolo (beautiful orange with hints of yellow – it was so hard to capture!):
Maus Jung (a lovely purpley gray):
And the gorgeous Pesto:
The Pesto definitely inspired me to cast on right away and as I am the most wonderful sister in the world (I am! Ask my sister! π ) I’m giving her the finished object – yes I already finished! – of an Aestlight Shawl:
It turned out beyond lovely and I am so glad I did it in the Pesto color. It was an amazing green to work with!
As for the pattern, I couldn’t be happier with the end result though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t bored knitting it. It’s all garter stitch and even the lace pattern is incredibly easy. The edging was a lot of fun to knit, though. I do think that my bored problem came from the fact that I finished it all at once, though. If I had taken my time (like I did for Mara in the previous post) I’m sure that I wouldn’t have been even half as bored with it as I was doing it all in less than a week.
I can’t complain too much, though, and I daresay I look pretty happy with the finished product. π
Pattern – Aestlight Shawl by Gudrun Johnston (rav link | project link)
Yarn – Wollmeise Sockenwolle 100% Superwash (rav link | store I used)
Needle – US6 (4mm)
Cast on – July 29, 2009
Cast off – August 3, 2009
Modifications – None. I didn’t want to deviate from the pattern too much due to amount of yarn needed. I have about 40 yd left of the yarn, though, so I probably could have added a few border rows (which is what I would have done).
I wanted to show you all the wonders of blocking again so I laid out the shawl on the couch and went into the other room to get the camera. When I get back, here’s what I found:
When I asked Hitchcock what he thought he was doing, he decided that the shawl was too comfy to slink away so he laid down for a nap, LOL.
I did throw him off of it to get a picture, though!
Blocking is pretty amazing, no? My advice to you for the day is to start blocking your FO’s if you don’t already. Great advice or what? π
Oh and my budding love affair with Wollmeise will continue! I’m casting on soon for a pair of Sunshine socks (rav link) using Wollmeise in Safran (destashed from a fellow raveler). Can’t wait! π
That’s beautiful. I don’t know that I’ll ever order any wollmeise, given how hard it is to get and probably the price, but I do love their colors. Just gorgeous – and I’m super-impressed with knitting a shawl in just a week, mostly garter stitch or not!
Lovely, lovely yarn, and I love your FO too, simple is often incredibly effective, yes?
That yarn isincredibly beautiful! What is it made of? Does Wollmeise have a web site?
Gorgeous yarn, I am completely jealous!
The shawl is gorgeous!! I’ve never tried Wollmeise, but now I want some. NOW! π
Lina,
You did it again. BE-YOO-TI-FULLLLL! The pesto is fantastic. But I can’t wait to see what you create with the wasabi. Loved the shock of green!
Less than a week?!?!? The colours you chose are gorgeous and I agree, the packaging is too cute.
I know exactly how you feel. I have fallen for wollmeise myself lately. The shawl is gorgeous and your sis is so lucky. I can’t wait to get more wollmeiseβ₯
The shawl is beautiful! What a gorgeous color!
The shawl looks great! I am too lazy to wait for updates so miss out on all these beautiful yarns!
beautiful!
Oh wow, your shawl is beautiful! Such gorgeous colours you chose. You really are a lovely sister to give that shawl away!
Just lovely (both the yarn and the pattern).
That is amazing you finished the shawl so fast. I love the color green and this yarn is very beautiful.
Beautiful yarn! I;m jealous π I went to order some the other day, but I guess she’s not excepting orders for a little bit. Oh well, it gives me more time to drool over the colors. Great shawl too!
Beautiful shaw- I hope your sister appreciates you!
The shawl is gorgeous! It looks fantastic in that yarn, very colourful and cheerful π Very jealous of all the pretty Wollmeise, especially the Maus Jung!
Wow, that’s amazing! I love the shine that the yarn gives the shawl π
I love the yarn and the pattern together- the shawl is perfect! I really should try to get my hands on some Wollmeise…
