Sock Made In Spain

I feel really bad for not leaving a post stating that I was leaving for Spain before I left, but things got so busy up until the moment we took off (including our relatively short direct flight being cancelled due to the volcanic ash and us having to switch to a really long and tiring 2 stop 16-hour trip) that I never got a chance to update you all that I would be gone. Not that it’s that important or anything, but I still do feel a bit guilty for just up and leaving! That being said, I had an amazing time in Spain with my sister and I would go back in a heartbeat! It was a wonderful trip full of awesome food, great sights and loads of fun. I took about 2,000 pictures of which I have gone through maybe 500. I hope to narrow the 2,000 down to 400, but not sure if that will be possible as I’ve already got 200 out of the first 500 pictures I’ve gone through! I promise not to post them all here, LOL! I hope to be finished with most of the pictures by the end of the week to write a blog post (or three) about the trip. Until then, though, here is a picture that I took (I was scared to death of leaving the camera on that ledge, though, and only did it because there was no one around – I think I’d have a heart attack if someone knocked it off!) of my sister and I at the Alhambra that I just love. Not necessarily for its surroundings but mostly because we both look really happy in it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sisters

So although I don’t have any other pictures of Spain to share with you today, I do have pictures of a FO that I actually did knit on the way to Spain as well as while there!

Flapper Circle Socks - FINISHED

I actually almost finished the second sock there as well, though as it turns out I forgot all my tapestry needles in US and had to leave the toe to be kitchenered when I got back.

Flapper Circle Socks - FINISHED

I am so in love with these socks! They are amazing on the feet and they look so cool and 50’s to me. I wasn’t expecting to love them at all and was doubtful of my abilities at picking out yarn when I saw it arrive (I mean, black cream and pink… what was I thinking???) but never fear, it turned out that the pattern and yarn perfectly complemented each other!

As you possibly may have noticed, these do not match. I could very well have made them match but decided at the last moment not to. I love that they are fraternal twins and look just slightly off from each other. It gives the socks a sense of rebellion, no? ๐Ÿ˜‰

As far as the pattern goes, it’s incredibly easy to make and memorize! I don’t think I looked at the pattern twice after reading it once. Plus, it’s a free pattern and looks great with striped yarns, if you’re looking for something beyond the plain vanilla sock. I highly recommend it!

Flapper Circle Socks - FINISHED

Pattern – Circle Socks by Anne Campbell (rav link | project link)
Yarn – Sknitches Syncopation Self-Striping in Flapper Girl (rav link | store I used)
Needle – US1.5 (2.5mm)
Cast on – April 16, 2010
Cast off – May 23, 2010
Modifications – Decreased foot to 66 stitches instead of 64 after gusset. Did a standard decrease toe rather than a star toe.

The next post will probably be about my travels in Barcelona (the rest of Spain to follow) so be sure to be on the look out for that! Hope everyone has had a great last couple of weeks and I’m looking to catch up on all blog posts this week too. Should be busy – though fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. That’s an awesome picture of you and your sister! Looks like you were having a great time, and I’m glad your camera didn’t opt to plummet to its death. I did that once with my camera from a 26th floor hotel room window in Vegas…balancing my camera on the ledge on a shoe and a bag of M&Ms…to try and get some shots of the night skyline. Worked out, but a tripod would have been so much less stressful! LOL Here’s the best shot I got:

Love the socks! Those colors are great together. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I love seeing how happy you and your sister were…you captured it well. Looking forward to seeing more (maybe not ALL) of your pictures:) I’m going to queue those socks, they’re beautiful. We missed you on Ravelry!

  3. I love that picture of you & your sister. Brave girl putting that camera on the ledge.

And those socks! Sigh. That heel looks beautiful & I’m a sucker for pink in most color combinations, but that is a particularly pretty one. I love that heel too.

  4. Super cute! looks like you had a great time, and awesome travelling companion- I wish I could travel with one of my sisters. One day perhaps ๐Ÿ™‚
